Campus Celebration Revives an Old Purchase Tradition

 Purchase College welcomed the new academic year with a convocation celebration outside of the library on Sept. 9. Students and faculty gathered to hear remarks from President Michael Steiper and witness the return of the passing of bricks, an old Purchase tradition.

During the ceremony, one student from each class received an honorary brick to keep until graduation. This year’s brick holders are senior Nick Russo, junior Laura Robles Gomez, sophomore Moses Arce Jr. and first-year student Heaven Murphy.

“I’m honored to be chosen as a brick holder, and I hope I can represent the class of 2027 to the best of my ability,” Russo said.
