A new student-run service is coming to Purchase in 2026: The Field will provide the campus community with graphic design services as soon as the upcoming fall semester.
The Field, part of graphic design major Sofia Mancz’s senior project, is a student-led graphic design studio that aims to provide completely free and accessible design services to both students and on-campus organizations.

Its name is inspired by the Great Lawn as well as the professional job landscape and is something Mancz really focused on when developing an identity for her new service.
“A field is a place of gathering and growth,” said Mancz. “But it also refers to the professional field, so students who are entering the workforce are developing in a nourishing community. Kind of like the Great Lawn, The Field is a place for a student community to thrive.”
As for specific examples of the benefits The Field will provide to the campus community, Mancz spoke very enthusiastically.
“If a student is hosting an event and needs a flyer, or needs business cards, or an organization on campus needs help with branding or promotional things,” said Mancz, “the Field can provide those kinds of services to people who may not otherwise have the bandwidth to have a graphic designer.”
The Field doesn’t just provide access to design services; it also gives students the opportunity to gain internships and hands-on graphic design experience.
“It’s [The Field] meant for students to have hands-on experience with design and client relationships,” said Mancz. “The idea was kind of grown out of a frustration that I didn’t get that sort of thing while I was here.”

Graphic design senior Skylar Hyslop echoed Mancz's excitement for more opportunities for hands-on work.
“It seems like a good idea,” said Hyslop. “It would be good for people to get some more portfolio pieces to really build their resume.”
The Field was recently voted on and approved unanimously by the current service board heads of the Purchase Student Government Association (PSGA) and the Student Senate, and will officially become available in the fall of 2026.
“As a graphic designer whose first experiences were making promotional flyers for student groups on campus, The Field is very exciting and very necessary,” said PSGA Vice-President Jason Berry, one of the voters involved in bringing The Field to life. “I've seen a growing number of posters being created with AI as of late, and that especially hurts knowing that we have so many talented artists at our disposal here.
With Mancz graduating, graphic design junior Daniel Krogman will take the reins as The Field's first-ever design director in the Fall of 2026. Krogman will oversee all aspects of the day-to-day running of The Field, as well as help uphold design standards and ensure adherence to PSGA design accessibility guidelines.
“I’m definitely really excited to get started,” said Krogman. “I’m a little nervous, but I really think this is a great opportunity for this campus and a much-needed service.”
In addition to running the design side of The Field, Krogman also wants to place an emphasis on creating a space that fosters the same sense of community as its namesake.
“My goal is to make a really safe and inclusive work environment,” said Krogman. "I want everyone to feel really supported and create an environment where people both in The Field and out can connect and collaborate with each other.”
