SOCA Presents: Jamrock

By Sophia Pallozzi

Students celebrated The Students of Caribbean Ancestry's (SOCA’s) annual Jamrock event, hosted at The Stood on Sept. 27, featuring music by Ray Hefner and party favors provided by SOCA’s executive board, which included confetti and beach balls to liven up the atmosphere.

Jamrock, another endearing word for Jamaica, is known for its vibrant lifestyle and influential music scene. At Purchase, SOCA put their own spin on Jamrock, encouraging students to rep their nationality, and included student disc jockeys (DJs) to perform. “I think it’s great that races can come together and have a good time,” said Chris Anea, a friend visiting a Purchase student, “music is music.”

Tristian Casanova, senior communications major, is excited about students interacting and learning about SOCA, “We got to debut our new banner to help advertise our club better since people love our events, but sometimes don’t know much about the people hosting them, or how to get involved with events like Jamrock.” The next event, to be held at the Stood, has yet to be announced.
