Panther's Weekday Forecast 10/30-11/6

Updated: Nov 4, 2023

By Josiah Acheampong

WINTER IS COMING! After colder air settles into our area this week, every morning will have its own wakeup call when you open the door. While the week begins on a damp note, it won’t stay that way. Sun will return by Tuesday, but theres a catch. Wake up temperatures will be in the 30s and 40s throughout the week. So, get ready to bundle up and get ready to FALL back in love with autumn.

MONDAY

OCTOBER 30, 2023

WHAT TO EXPECT: ROUNDS OF RAIN HIGH: 60°F/ LOW: 40°F

Monday will be another damp day with pulses of rain impacting the Hudson Valley. However, winds will remain gusty at times with gusts up to 20 mph. Similar to Sunday, temperatures will remain close to average for this time of year.

For commuters, his will be another day with soggy morning and evening commutes. It is possible that rain will lighten up and begin to dry up as we approach the evening hours. When the rain is all finished, expect .50”-1” of rain to have fallen. This won’t be enough to cause massive flooding along roadways and inside homes, but enough to cause delays during travel throughout the tri-state.

Monday, like Sunday, will require umbrellas, rain jackets, and rain boots before you head out for the day. In addition, don’t put your jackets away as temperatures will continue to remain cool throughout the day on Monday and into the evening hours.

TUESDAY

OCTOBER 31, 2023

WHAT TO EXPECT: DRYING OUT | HIGH: 52°F/ LOW: 39°F

After Monday being in the 60s, Tuesday will be quite chilly. Temperatures will struggle to reach the mid 50s. Although the day will have partly cloudy skies, temperatures will remain 20-25 degrees lower than the high temperatures of three days ago.

Tuesday will mark the beginning of several days where a jacket and a hat will be needed as

morning temperatures sit slightly above freezing for a few days throughout the week. That means for night, outdoor sporting events, you may want to bundle up.

WEDNESDAY

NOVEMBER 1, 2023

WHAT TO EXPECT: COOLER TREND| HIGH: 50°F/ LOW: 36°F

The calendar says it’s November and the weather agrees. With wake-up temperatures expected to fall to the mid to low 30s, it's going to officially feel brick (so cold that when you open the door, the air hits you before you can step outside) outside. These lowtemperatures will feel even colder with wind gusts up to 30 mph. With such low morning temperatures and mostly cloudy skies, temperatures will struggle to reach 50 degrees in many locations in the Hudson Valley. Also, do not rule out the possibility of a pop-up rain shower.

THURSDAY

NOVEMBER 2, 2023

WHAT TO EXPECT: BRISK & BRIGHT | HIGH: 53°F/ LOW: 42°F

Once again, another colder than average day. While the skies may be bright and full of sunshine, don’t be fooled. Temperatures will hover in the low to mid 50s across much of the tri-state. Thursday will feel very similar to the days before. So, don’t put that jacket and hat too far away. Outdoor activities and events such as walking around the loop or doing yoga on the Great Lawn will feel chillier than it was a week ago when high temperatures were in the low to mid 70s.

FRIDAY

NOVEMBER 3, 2023

WHAT TO EXPECT: SEASONAL BLEND | HIGH: 58°F/ LOW: 45°F

Two Fridays in a row without the threat of rain. Temperatures will rise to the upper 50s for the first time in days, making it feel quite pleasant outside. We will finally be close to average, temperature wise, for this time of year. With the abundant sunshine and clear skies, it will be a great opportunity to go for a walk or maybe sit in the sun for a little bit. However, shaded areas will remain cooler. It will still remain cooler at night during any nighttime outdoor events and activities, so prepare to bundle up.

Finally, a weekend with no rain. This means that our eight straight weekends of rain have ended. This is the first time in two months that the entire weekend forecast calls for no rain. So, make use of it while you can. Unlike the middle part of this week, temperatures will be a bit warmer, bringing relief to those who dislike the cold. This will be a great weekend to go out for a hike, catch the peaking fall foliage and prepare to fall back an hour early on Sunday morning.

SATURDAY

NOV. 4, 2023

WHAT TO EXPECT: WARMING UP| HIGH: 60°F/ LOW: 42°F

What a way to start our weekend. Temperatures will rebound into the upper 50s and low 60s throughout the area, giving us a continued break from the chilly air of mid-week. With the help of a southwest wind, and a mix of sun and clouds, this will be the start of several days with temperatures slightly above average, blue skies, and no rain.

While there may not be any on-campus sporting events on Saturday, it will be a wonderful opportunity to get outside and go for a hike on the local trails, take a ride to Central Park and watch the foliage, or take a jog around the loop for some cardiovascular activity.

While the morning may have a slight chill, the afternoon will be warmer and much more pleasant.

SUNDAY

NOV. 5, 2023

WHAT TO EXPECT: FALLING BACK, BUT NOT TEMPERATURES| HIGH: 60°F/ LOW: 40°F

Woke up earlier than usual today? Well, Daylight Savings has officially ended. Meaning, winter is inching ever so closer. But temperatures may not give that impression. After a morning chill, with temperatures in the low to mid 40s, with the help of sunshine, temperatures will manage to moderate into the upper 50s and low 60s, like the day before.

So, if you did not take the opportunity to get outside yesterday, today is your opportunity to catch the peaking fall foliage while it lasts. With our northern communities already past their foliage peak, our time is ticking. Get out there, take in the natural scenery and take a deep breath before heading into the next week.

MONDAY

NOV. 6, 2023

WHAT TO EXPECT: PICTURE PERFECT START| HIGH: 57°F/ LOW: 51°F

The trend continues. As you head out today to start your work week, morning temperatures will be chilly. Many communities will see temperatures sink to the mid to upper 30s before a southern wind kicks in during the day helping our temperatures rebound to the upper 50s, with the help of the sun. It is one of those days where you will need a jacket and hat in the morning and shed layers throughout the day.

With a mix of sun and clouds, it will be another beautiful day on the Purchase Campus and along the Hudson Valley. So, during your lunch break, try to go eat outside while you can before winter settles in and those options no longer exist. As we approach the evening hours, clouds will return, helping to insulate us and our daytime heating overnight before rain returns on Tuesday.
