Updated: Nov 12, 2023

MONDAY

NOV. 6, 2023

WHAT TO EXPECT: PICTURE PERFECT START| HIGH: 54°F/ LOW: 36°F

The trend continues. As you head out today to start your work week, morning temperatures will be chilly. Many communities will see temperatures sink to the mid to upper 30s before a southern wind kicks in during the day helping our temperatures rebound to the upper 50s, with the help of the sun. It is one of those days where you will need a jacket and hat in the morning and shed layers throughout the day.

With a mix of sun and clouds, it will be another beautiful day on the Purchase Campus and along the Hudson Valley. So, during your lunch break, try to go eat outside while you can before winter settles in and those options no longer exist. As we approach the evening hours, clouds will return, helping to insulate us and our daytime heating overnight

before the rain returns on Tuesday.

TUESDAY

NOVEMBER 7, 2023

WHAT TO EXPECT: WARM & BREEZY | HIGH: 66°F/ LOW: 46°F

Morning: During the overnight and into the morning commute, there will be a threat of a passing shower or two. This can cause minor slowdowns during your morning commute and start Tuesday off on a soggy start. However, the threat of rain is higher the further North and West you travel from New York City. This puts Purchase College and nearby areas at risk of a passing shower.

Afternoon: The afternoon sun will help usher in milder temperatures. Expect highs to be 10-15°F above average for this time of year. Temperatures will max out in the mid to upper 60s, making it feel quite pleasant outside. So, take advantage of this temporary milder weather as colder air is mere hours away. It will also be quite breezy outside with winds gusting up to 20mph at times.

Evening: As the sun sets across the Purchase Campus, temperatures will respond as well. Temperatures will fall into the 40s before the night is over meaning Wednesday morning will have a chilly start.

WEDNESDAY

NOVEMBER 8, 2023

WHAT TO EXPECT: BACK TO REALITY| HIGH: 50F/ LOW: 36°F

Morning: Brrr! It’s chilly outside. As you head out you may find some frost developing on your windshield. So be sure to give yourself some extra time before heading out to warm up your car. Grab a jacket and keep it with you as Wednesday will not feel like the day before.

Afternoon: Even with the help of the sun throughout the day, temperatures will struggle to reach 50 degrees in many locations. With a cooler air mass in place, the next few days will remain cooler and closer to average than it was on Tuesday. This means going outside in a tel shirt would’ve been the best. Be sure to have a jacket and a sweater handy.-Wednesday

Evening: As we head into the evening hours, the risk of rain showers returns. While the risk for any flooding will remain low and downpours aren’t expected, it may be enough to postpone any outdoor activities. However, it will be a great opportunity to stay home and watch a few movies. But, if you're a lover of rain, it’ll be great for you to grab a raincoat and some boots and enjoy the rain.

THURSDAY

NOVEMBER 9, 2023

WHAT TO EXPECT: DAMP START | HIGH: 56°F/ LOW: 45°F

Morning: For the early risers, a passing shower cannot be ruled out as a storm to our north brings a mix of snow & rain to parts of the Catskills & Adirondacks. Morning temperatures should bottom out in the mid-40s. So, be sure to cover up on your way out.

Afternoon: Rain chances dwindle, leaving behind widespread cloud cover. Temperatures will moderate into the mid-50s, which is about average for this time of year.

Evening: The evening will be cool and comfortable. This will be a nice evening to go out for a walk, enjoy the Downtown White Plains area, or something more. However, by this point, it should be clear that you should always leave your home with a sweater or a jacket to keep warm if it gets too chilly.

FRIDAY

NOVEMBER 10, 2023

WHAT TO EXPECT: SEASONAL BLEND | HIGH: 55°F/ LOW: 45°F

Morning: As we inch closer to winter, mornings will only get colder. Morning temperatures will be similar to the morning lows of Thursday will temperatures in the mid-40s. This is a pretty average morning temperature-wise and will set the tone for the rest of the day.

Afternoon: With the help of some afternoon sun, temperatures will moderate to seasonal highs in the mid-50s. However, it won't remain sunny all day. There will be a mix of sun and clouds throughout the day. All in all, it will feel like a pretty regular day, making it feel quite tranquil.

Evening: Clearer skies will prevail, allowing our temperatures from the day to cool off. This means any nighttime plans will require a jacket, hat, and other fall-like accessories to keep warm if you plan on heading out.

It is finally the weekend! Expect sunny skies & no rain. Two weekends in a row without rain feels weird. But better yet, as we head into the following week, there will be a very low threat of rain too. However, this weekend and into the first half of next week, colder air from Canada will settle into the area bringing colder than average temperatures.

SATURDAY

NOV. 11, 2023

WHAT TO EXPECT: BRIGHT & BRISK| HIGH: 50°F/ LOW: 33°F

Morning: As soon as you open your house door, the chilly air will make its presence known. Colder air from Canada will begin to settle into the region, thanks to a northern wind bringing frigid air with it. Wake up temperatures will be in the low to mid 30s. So be sure to allow some time for your vehicle to warm up before it feels like an ice box.

Afternoon: Do not put those jackets too far when you are heading out to lunch. Even with the support of the sun in the sky, temperatures will struggle to reach 50 degrees. And, with the Northwestern breeze, it may feel colder than the actual temperature reading. So, be sure to stay in the path of the sun to maximize warmth.

Evening: As the sun fades into the horizon, the temperatures will respond quickly dropping into the 30s. This will be a night to grab a scarf, jacket, and a hat

SUNDAY

NOV. 12, 2023

WHAT TO EXPECT: SUNNY, BUT CHILLY| HIGH: 45°F/ LOW: 32°F

Morning: If you thought yesterday was cold, today will be even colder. Wake up temperatures will start in the low 30s and upper 20s. This would be one of the coldest days yet. On a positive note, this will be the coldest day of this blast of cold air. So, be sure to stay warm as you head outside to start your day.

Afternoon: As the sun coats the Purchase College campus and the rest of the tri-state, temperatures will struggle to leave the 40s as the core of Canadian cold air lingers over the Northeast. You’ll want to bundle up as this cold air is paired with a slight breeze from the Northwest.

Evening: Like last night, temperatures will drop into the freezing point. This will be cold enough to warrant a hat, gloves, scarf, and jacket. The daytime heating will leave quickly, ushering in wintertime cold.

MONDAY

NOV. 13, 2023

WHAT TO EXPECT: STILL COOL| HIGH: 50°F/ LOW: 29°F

Morning: Take your wins where you can. While wake up temperatures are in the upper are still chilly in the upper 20s and low 30s, temperatures will be slightly warmer overall compared to the previous two days. However, this does not mean it is time to put the jacket away; temperatures will remain relativelychilly in the morning and throughout the rest of the day.

Afternoon: At the risk of sounding like a broken record, the day will have a mix of sun and a few clouds. Even with the presence of sun, temperatures will once again struggle to reach 50 degrees in many locations. While many areas in the Northeast are past peal fall foliage, some locations in New York City are peaking and deserve to be appreciated before its officially gone.

Evening: Like past nights, daytime heating will not last too long. With limited, if any cloud cover, much of our heating will rise into space, cooling our temperatures down. This means any late-night walks or traveling outdoors should be done with a jacket or winter weather clothing accessory. However, be on the lookout as progressively slightly warmer days are ahead.
